The wind had continued to blow all night., racing across the plains from the Rocky Mountains. When we got up the next morning it was bitterly cold and cloudy. We three boys hurried through the morning milking, then we went off to school, 3 1/2 miles away. The little norther didn't let up like some folks predicted. The wind continued at 40 miles per hour, and about noon, some clouds began spitting snow. It was a peculiar kind of snow, light and dry as hen feathers in July. The teachers at New Lynn school would not let us outside for recess and noon break. The principal looked at the old thermometer and said it had been dropping all day. When school let out at 4:00, it was down to 10 degrees. He dismissed school until the "little cold snap" was over. to be continued ...
