went to my grocery store yesterday, 25 people in line to get in. took about 20 min to get in.

governor has metering at essential businesses here (20% of fire code capacity at a time maximum). no grocery store employee was regularly watching things so i saw 12 people leave before the next one entered when some employee finally got around to doing their job. I think i could have gotten inside under 10 mins if things ran smoothly.

thinking of emailing the governor and telling her while people can wait for their plants or lumber or bolts (home improvement store crowds got her to institute metering), she should lax grocery store rules, the most essential of essential businesses. Allow 25-30% capacity and noone might have to wait to get in, or mandate a store employee has to constantly get people in the moment someone leaves the store so you aren't waiting 7 mins to move the line along when customers leave the store.

I'd hate to think people are walking away from food because they have to wait a long time to even go to a grocery store, and pickup/delivery is a hard alternative as many items are not available to be ordered online so you are forced to go to the store to try to buy those.
I do mostly online ordering and was well stocked months ago, and although most chain stores have the same policies country wide, I would guess depending on the management and employees, demand in the area and other factors it can really hinder things. Restrictions and limitations do just that and sadly it hurts many people in different ways. I shopped mostly for a few neighbors that are at risk for several reasons and restocked some regular daily things we eat and use. There is a lot of nonsense at the state level depending on where you are at that is for sure, if everyone takes care of their home base and those around them that are vulnerable (community) it will work out fine. But difficult for people that lack the health or other important things to even get basic needs met in some areas.

Not to diminish the tragedy permeating the world, but I am enjoying this new pace of life. It is more manageable. Good afternoon fellow coin grinders.

There are most certainly pluses and minuses.

I may be off the wall on this but I have been thinking the best thing would be to have mobile grocery/produce/paper product/bakery trucks - even prepared food trucks - come around to various places where there is a parking lot - plenty of room for people to avoid close contact and they could approach in safe numbers - then they could move on to another lot - it would certainly be a boon to the farmers who are throwing out their produce while we can't get it in the store and it would help people who otherwise have to rely on public transportation. When I was a kid in Europe we got everything but meat delivered - bread by bicycle even. We have tons of food trucks in this city of which I don't think one is running.
