Won't be around much for the next few days. Trying to sort out when to say goodbye to the dog (it's time). Vet has opening today or Friday (daughter begs for tomorrow.....when they have no appointment).

He's not been eating well for months - but I've gotten around it with enormous creativity. (I've read that cancer can make the smell of food awful - and dogs will just bolt). So, I've been cooking homemade dog food, and when that didn't work anymore, I went to chicken, turkey and whatnot. And high calorie canned dog food. And cheese, eggs, bacon. (You get the picture). He's actually still walking every day, and seems okay - smells everything when he's out, looking for whomever was there before him - esp. deer. He's quieter of course, and slower - but still alert and interested.

But the last few days he's down to about 400 calories a day. He used to eat in excess of 1000 (when he stole food, double or triple that!). This morning he ate some bread (he's always loved that) cheese, milk, and peanut butter. Nothing dog-healthy, but something.

He's 14. Terribly sad and will be very lonely without a dog (anyone know of one that needs a home, just bring it on by!).
