Story time: When I was a kid, there was only one pizza place that my family ordered from (I think it was the only one in town at the time) and they always ordered the same thing: ground beef and cheese and sauce and that's it. It wasn't until I was probably 15 or so and had pizza at a friend's house in another town that I learned that pizza was a food that could be something other than ground beef with cheese and tomato on a crust.

when you get canadian bacon on your pizza, you get a thicker cut of ham. like almost porkroll thick.
when you ask for ham, you'll get chopped up pieces of deli sliced ham.
both have their own merits, though, and I love all hams equally
