Just naming it .doc doesn't mean it will go there. It sounds like you have it set up to save files to desktop...which is actually a good thing until you are done with them and want to move them to another folder for storage. It doesn't have to be in "Documents" to open, for example, it will still open up if you see it on your desktop.

Thanks. It shows up under libraries in *.doc but I found it a different way somehow. It wasn't there when I did that particular search for it. I've done a lot of work for one requester so should I put them in one file on the desktop so I know where they are from now on? That frightened me but it had a long timer and was simple to do so I had time to learn something. And it did transfer to documents from the desktop though I left the shortcut there. Anyway thanks to both of you for helping me find a way around the problem.

Err I meant comma not <
