Surviving the Blue Norther by J. B. Cearley - Winter Wisdom

They called it a "blue norther," but I thought of it as a terrible blizzard. It came screaming down across the Great Plains of Northwest Texas in early January 1932. The wind hit us first, roaring along at 40 miles an hour in the late afternoon. The oldtimers laughed and said it was just a blue norther, a frequent occurrence on the plains. They didn't laugh the next day ... to be continued.
