I'm worried about heat going out (and pipes). We have a wood stove (no wood yet!!).

I'm not used to owning a home in New England (We get more snow, here - than you do - not by the water, of course). So...........I've been on youtube trying to sort it all out.
Where are you?

Regardless, they have this stuff called heat tape, you could use on basement pipes, if you have no back up. But, if you live somewhere where you may lose heat, 2 kerosene heaters won't set you back much. Much less than burst pipes.

Wood stove or wood pellets?

Brattleboro
I lived in MA for a long time (went to college and grad school there). That was before the terrible misadventure in FL.

Oh.
We have a wood stove, which is a good thing (what good is pellet if you have no power?)
But we have almost no wood and........I've actually NEVER lit a wood stove before! I went out to buy a temp gage for the pipe (to run it the right temp) and the guy at Home Depot laughed. He said No one uses those.

(I got it anyway).

Sometimes something good is up. And if it is, then there aren't so many people on.
But it's not really consistent - and early mornings are........early mornings.
