I feel so bad because I live about 2 hours away and don't have a car. There isn't really any way I can get there to help her. I'm seriously considering sending a money order or visa gift card just to help out, because I know their finances usually aren't the best.

I always feel in those situations ... do for her, what you would want someone to do for you. It comes from a place of love and I'm sure she will appreciate any gesture in her time of need. So sorry to hear about your friend

I feel so bad because I live about 2 hours away and don't have a car. There isn't really any way I can get there to help her. I'm seriously considering sending a money order or visa gift card just to help out, because I know their finances usually aren't the best.

Maybe you could get a meal service for her or something similar for a different area that she may need help in.

The biggest thing I can say is keep checking on her. When I lost my dad last year, I had an outpouring of sympathy for a few days, but then most people just moved on with their lives and didn't mention it again. Now, I get it - the world keeps spinning. The thing is...that event caused my life to be split into two time periods: before and after. And I was not the same, and never will be. Almost no one (except my bf, mom, and best friend) checked on me after the first week or so. And it made me feel like I should just be getting over it and moving on. But it doesn't work like that. At the time, though, it made me feel crazy.

So...just continue to reach out, even if she doesn't have much to say. Just knowing that someone cares, long after it happens, and that she isn't the only one who remembers what happened...that can mean everything.
