That's how we do ours. As long as you are above the cat, they can't fight the pressure to open their jaw. Our tabby had been in a car accident when she was younger and had no teeth at the back behind her 'canines' so easy to do. And she had an overactive thyroid so was so used to pills twice a day, every day.
