if you leave the tab open it updates automatically so it'll show a little (1) on the tab if there's one up

If you open a tab in your browser and put it on the Prolific Studies page, the tab will now indicate whenever there are available studies in the Tab Title with a number behind Prolific. "Prolific (2)", or if you don't want an extra open tab, you could run page monitor also, or you could do both.
