If they don't fix the garage before the snow comes......will it have to stay that way until spring? :(
No, we had to take out a loan to cover the $30k in repair because sections are still falling from the main garage into the workshop it's too dangerous to ignore. The insurance company would theoretically reimburse us once everything is approved. But, the first adjuster took such bad pictures and did such a crappy job because he assumed it would be covered that Allstate ended up denying it because "we should have made repairs before the collapse" (well, it would be handy to have known it was going to collapse, jerks).

It took so many weeks to get contractors to show up to give the quotes that the insurance company required that they closed the file, which is a fiasco to reopen. And then when the structural engineer gave his report (fully in our favor and pointing out exactly why we shouldn't have to pay) the file was closed for a third time and had to be reopened and just... UGH. So last week on Tuesday they said they'd have a final ruling on Thursday (then never called) and when we talked to them on Friday they said they were going to send a new adjuster out to take new pictures. BUT, this weekend, another piece of concrete collapsed and we called them on Sunday and said "if you want to know what this looks like, you gotta get here quick" and they said "oh, we don't have any adjusters available until November 10th" which is BS because this is freaking Allstate, they have people everywhere.

I can not begin to explain how frustrating and scary and expensive this is becoming. (and no, we can't just hire a lawyer, we have NO money left to even call one and yes, we've reported everything to the state and even the magistrate's office because if more collapses, it could hit the house and then none of that would be covered by insurance because it would be related to a denied claim.

I'm so sorry. I wish I had something helpful to say. This sounds really scary! I mean. It's insurance - for just this purpose.

You know.......I love living in a house. But I absolutely HATE owning one.

I don't mean to be so negative after just signing up and I know y'all are into breakfast so why not breakfast for lunch. Hollandaise is made from a mix of egg yolks, vinegar, lemon juice and butter.

I panda'd this thinking I'd never catch it. Surprise. Horror. Did it anyway. Hope lives here eternal. I hope they pay. Took me longer that everyone else, but then, I actually read it all, sometimes twice. I'll call it a day's pay and retire to eat my baked potato and read a book.
