When determining whether you need to file a return, you don't include tax-exempt income. In 2016 for example, if you are under age 65 and single, you must file a tax return if you earn $10,350 or more, which is the sum of the 2016 standard deduction for a single taxpayer plus one exemption.

Yeah, I made like $3,200 last year.
But do you have another job? I believe the $10k or under is total income. 2017 will be my first year reporting income, I think I made like $12 in 2013 with Mturk.

sadly the hit WITH said bees isn't worth the effort.

Yeah, I did two then read the TO.

Supposedly they reject if the rotation is off on some of them by a little bit.

Thankfully, my two approved same day.

Nope. This is what I do. That and stay at home dad.

It's taxable income. And worse, you have to pay both the employer and employee portions of FICA/Medicare on top of your marginal rate.
This is why those of you that aspire to make as much as some of us should reconsider...it gets rather expensive. Some days I think I'd be better off just sending uncle Sam everything so he can throw back a nickel...be easier that way.

You still owe SE taxes. Can't avoid that.

Huh. Maybe I should consult a tax professional.

Wouldn't take much since I only had 8K earned on MTurk since 2012.

I pay about 25% of total mturk earnings in federal taxes.

i claim as much as i can. earned income credit!

See this is what I don't understand. I claimed last year. Got a $7K refund. My friend, same amount of kids and family situation. They got $12K back.

I don't understand the math on taxes and I don't think the IRS does either. I think they just use a giant dart board and whatever it lands on is what you get.

This. My husband gets extra taxes taken out so we don't owe come tax season.

I just about shit my pants when we got audited by the state last year, though. I think THEY messed up though. Once I sent them the info they asked for, they gave us our refund so

not everyone earns the same amount of money or has the same deductions and whatever. your situation may be similar, but when it comes to filing taxes, theres a lot more shit to consider. house/rent/child care etc.

Truth. Some income isn't taxable, too. When my husband was deployed, on paper we looked super poor because combat pay wasn't taxable. Now he gets nontaxable VA pay, in addition to the rest of his retirement check.

Omg. I was flipping out. We had never been contacted by the IRS, so it was a high anxiety time for me. Lol.
