I use cornmeal to thicken mine. Pinto and kidneys plus 3 lbs ground beef.
I'm a cheapskate, and hubby doesn't like the taste of cornmeal, so oatmeal it is. If I'm really skint, grated carrot too. it's another thing that disappears in the cooking and does add bulk.
For me, I can't tell the cornmeal in the chili, but I believe I'd notice carrots. I know sometimes I use either oatmeal or cornmeal in my meatloaf. My mom used to use crushed up saltines and for years I thought I hated meatloaf. Nope, just hate it made that way. lol

Raisins are narsty. I'm still amazed how great grapes are and raisins are so not great.
I had to look up ftfy. Which is not the first acronym I've had to look up on this forum. When did I get to be so old and outdated? I'm still stuck in the times of cool beans, psych, and all that and a bag of chips.
