This layoff has been killing me with this slow last week, I'll have the check the old union hall in the morning and see if anythings going on now that the holidays have wrapped up.

Your message makes it sounds like it's just a mere mention, and that you do not expect anything, not even a message, from him in kind. I just said something like "Your HIT is broken. What do I do?", and he wrote me back apologizing within 2 minutes with the code in hand.
