09/10 Season Opener Sunday!

I'm in central FL, the northeast (worst) portion of where it's supposed to make landfall. So we're just getting the very outer bands right now. We should start to get tropical storm force winds around noon and those should last for about 30 hours. The hurricane force winds are supposed to last 6-8 hours and we're getting the worst of it overnight. So we shall see! My sister is in southeast Florida and it's already getting nasty there. This storm is a beast.

I have relatives in Melbourne, FL.
Does anyone know if this will affect them, and how bad?

Will this affect them, and how bad?

Well, they're on the east coast, far enough to where they shouldn't be seeing the higher ranges of winds. They will still see tropical storm force winds since those extend 220 miles from the center. It also helps that at that point, the state is wider and there's more land between them and the eye. Their biggest concern will be storm surge, but that's more on the coast than anything. No matter what, all of Florida will feel the effects because she is such a massive storm. The good thing is that everyone is super prepared and there are so many good protocols in place.

Did you fact check, You can't always believe everything you read. Don't know if true or not, tried looking URL up on Snopes but didn't come up.

It looks like a partisan hack piece against private relief efforts with a heavy hint that we should solve this through government programs. 9% operating fees isn't really that bad for the wide ranging places that ARC operates. Its not just the big events where they help. They help from single house fires to entire neighborhoods wiped out by wildfires. Many homes flood outside huge hurricane events. ARC is there for all of those needs and if they spread out the outpouring of compassion brought on by single events like Harvey and Haiti to help people every day then thats alright with me.
