If that's the case then in 1st grade when I've actually had a chance to work because my kid is in school most of the day - then I would be happy to do that.
Yea but that is totally what is about. Like for example if you send your kid to school with 0 supplies in elementary school, they'll have everything they need that some other kids parents paid for, no joke.

It doesn't really change until they get old and keep what they bring.

I am also saving some money by not buying 12 glue sticks. I'm going to assume that's a typo because most of the other stuff seemed reasonable. I have not used 12 whole glue sticks in my life. I'm going to go ahead and get like 4 which I still think is excessive and if my daughter really needs more they can tell me she needs more and I'll send them to school with her. Also the dry erase I can't remember what but 6 or whatever it is for kindergarten? No. I don't think so. I wish it came with an explanation of why they think it is really necessary maybe or if an educator is on here and can enlighten me that would be great but as it is that seems outrageous. Okay, rant over.
Yeah I would say that is excessive for just one student, dang...Only reason I could think of is if they wanted you to share with the class but then it shouldn't be on the supply list because it would be voluntary but I don't know.

Then again, in the little bit of experience I have had using glue sticks at home with my son...they really don't last that long...but again it depends how much you use them and what you use them for. My son tried using a glue stick a couple days ago to glue some pipe cleaners together and after him using almost half the glue stick he came and told me it wasn't working and I had to tell him that was the wrong glue for that haha

See now this makes sense but why don't they communicate that you know?

I personally always found it annoying to have to buy 15 glue sticks or something but that's why it says it because they figure only about half the kids will bring in any supplies and the teachers don't want to pay for them so this is how we end up with these ridiculous supply lists for elementary school.
Yep, that's why I try to bring extra if I can swing it, I think teachers are underpaid.

Because of the attitude "I got mine, fuck everybody else". If you can afford to get that many glue sticks do it, but obviously if you can't don't.
I buy all the grand kids supplies, all they need to do is give grandma the list

The same reason that people flip out about socialism during political debates...lots of kids parents would throw a fit and say "why am I paying for other kids shit?" That's really not very nice but lots of people feel that way "fuck everyone else but me and my family"

I guess if they told everyone it was not mandatory to get the whole list, then the people who can easily afford it may not bother buying the extra supplies? Maybe.

Kiddo will turn 5 next May, so she'll start Kindergarten next fall. After reading all of ya'lls posts, I'm going to start buying a few things here and there throughout the year. If I end up with extra, then great.
