We are lucky, he is pretty high functioning..his issues mostly are around social cues, changes in routine, and sensory areas. It's hard sometimes because as his therapist put it..his higher level functioning is really high (aka intelligence-vocab, reading, math, etc.), but the finer points of life he really struggles with. So he KNOWS he's different. I never tell him to hush though, except bedtime, because I know how lucky we are that he is verbal and willing to engage with us on his terms.
