As a UK pharmacist, unqualified in the US, I hear you. Overqualified for so much, underqualified for the job I have done for the last 20 years. I struggle not to 'turn my nose up' at the other jobs.

But if you've decided that is what you are applying for, you can't think of them as crap jobs. Employers will pick that up in a flash.

I know exactly what my answer to "why are you applying for this (menial/basic/minimum-wage) job that you are severely overqualified for?

I can answer, being honest, sounding sincere and not like a lunatic.
Well, so, what is that answer? (asking for a friend)

So I found a pretty well priced Dell computer that isn't an all in one...how do you all feel about Dells? I've never owned one of those.
My current PC is a Dell manufactured in 2011 that I bought for 50 bucks from the county a couple of years ago when they upgraded all their office computers and sold off their old ones. Dells are cheap, but they're pretty tank-y; they're essentially designed to run 24/7 in dusty office buildings across the world. I upgraded mine by throwing 10 bucks of RAM into it along with a 40 dollar video card. I've left it running for the past two years 24/7 and game on it heavily, and have never had an issue, not even a crash.

I'm not sure I'd buy a brand new Dell over building a brand new computer from parts, but I certainly think you could do a LOT worse than a Dell. As long as Dell is around as a company, I'll do the used Dell thing whenever I need a new PC and spend a few bucks on upgrades to make it more current.

I hope my situation provides at least a little insight. tl;dr - Dells ain't bad at all.

Is that brand new? Either way, that price seems really high... I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a computer, but personally, there's no way I'd pay that much.

Yea it's new...the bad thing is that is for a tower and monitor...I saw ones with slightly better specs that were 1000 for just a tower.

The allure of buying a brand new Dell computer is the fact that you're getting a pre-built and you don't need to worry about the nuts and bolts of putting together a system yourself. A faster computer that is just as reliable could be built for half the price or less, but you'd spend time researching parts, buying them all seperately, and then putting everything together yourself.

To me personally, paying 800-1000 bucks for a pre-built Dell is absolutely not a good deal and as such I would not consider those prices to be a good deal. If you can stomach the thought of buying a used Dell however, you could absolutely score a great deal since computers depreciate in value in an eye-blink.

(waves hi from suspension shop)

Previous car owner slammed it (lowered suspension as far as they could) and I need to get it at least halfway back to stock so I don't have to fear speed bumps and driveways.

Hope I can get a tiny amount of work done.

Look at that fancy new computer! Heck my *new* gaming machine is a 4th gen i7, and that's only because it was free. I'm cheap, though, and I get around in the local tech circles so I get a lot of used hardware.

I was lucky to be able to spend more than a thousand for a *car*. :)
