embarrassing admittance #2: I'm terrified of driving. Half an hour behind the wheel of a car is half an hour of shaking sweating torture, for me, whereas a half hour's walk is usually pretty nice if you're dressed for the weather.
But yeah, I realize more places aren't pedestrian-friendly than are. I grew up 20 minutes outside a smallish town, and it took 45 minutes every day on the bus just to *get* to school. Words struggle to describe how much I hated it. :) If you can make it work, that's what counts.
Aw nothing to be embarrassed about at all, and don't ever let anyone make you feel that way about it either.

I know the long bus ride as well, and I too hated it. Not just the waste/length of time, but also at varying moments in my life was picked on too. Grade school I was at the start of the route for pick up which equated to the end of the route for drop off lol I could have been home in no time if I walked or road my bike, but it was considered dangerous intersections and so wasn't allowed to. We moved when I started high school. I was a five-minute walk to a high school BUT we lived on the other side of the line for the district so had to go to another one in a different city. I was easily 45 minutes on that bus ride back and forth too =/

Thank you! I'll try to update you all as soon as possible, but it may be a few days or a week. If it's March and you haven't seen me, start to worry :D Or check the Powerball winners!
Well, If *I* don't win the Powerball prize, then I hope you do.

Money doesn't fix everything, but it can fix a lot!

It'll fix that getting-laid-off- problem I should have later this year or early next :D
Just have to win first.
And buy tickets. I don't do that often.

Between my sister and I, I must have got all of the driving genes. She also hates it. I love it. She moved to the Ann Arbor area because she wouldn't have to drive or rely on a roommate to bring her places. I'm the opposite, I would rather jump in my own car, be in control and get to where I need to be. Growing up, my dad was a racecar driver, I couldn't imagine NOT driving, I always wanted to be just like him. Plus even if we lived somewhere pedestrian friendly, we would have to keep our vehicles because we are both contractors and they're work vehicles.
Oh and the bus ride - my kids have an HOUR long bus ride. They love it though, its like their social time.

EDIT: Totally forgot to add my embarrassing admittance: I own 3 vehicles right now.

The details of some of those say "estimate", and others have a somewhat weird way of grading some things. The cost of living here is not an "F", especially compared to average wages in the state, it's low crime and the schools are quite good. D- for housing is hilarious, making it seem ghetto or something.

I'm surprised so many people are anti-driving. I absolutely love it. Bought a car at 17 and I never looked back. I do have a weird aversion to public transportation though. It makes me feel trapped and irritable.

That's so funny! My dad drove racecars too when I was growing up. My brother's like you that way, pretty sure he got all the driving genes.
Ann Arbor is pedestrian-friendly, huh? Any ideas about the COL there?

(gotta say, omg 3 cars. Just to park those here would cost as much as I pay for my room a month, wish I was kidding)

I've never had to do much with public transportation, but I have gotten to the point I hate driving.
I've commuted an hour each way in the middle of nowhere (at least no traffic) for 17 years now. I have panic attacks because of it sometimes. And I'm angry every time I get in that car.

SAME. Except I bought my first car at 15 when I only had my learners permit.
Also fun public transport story: I had to take a bus in Florida a few years ago to go pick up the car I was borrowing. I was minding my own business with my headphones on and some lady started touching me. Like stroking my hair and telling me she liked my sunglasses. I have never felt more trapped and uncomfortable in my LIFE!

Pretty sure it was just a few weeks ago I got crap on here for having duct tape over my webcam. *looks around nervously*

edited: Take care!
I can tell you I have completely overcome my webcam shyness after getting a few paid gigs in (even though only one required use of the webcam to date). I'd still adore a 'Jane Jetson phone mask', but they probably wouldn't let me wear it if I had one.

I love driving too, but when I worked in Seattle it was so much cheaper to take the bus. I didn't mind it for the most part, but I did buy an ipod just so people on the bus wouldn't talk to me. Even if the battery was dead, I would just stick the earbuds in so people wouldn't try to start a conversation.

While I totally get how that'd freak you out, you have to admit that that kind of situation isn't actively life-threatening, the way that 89034934 random situations that can happen suddenly in a car can be.

Preferences, yo?

That's so creepy. Another reason to avoid buses lol
