I used to be snarky, but then I started dating this literal Jedi who somehow always knows exactly what to say to soothe and disarm whatever spark of disgruntlement or irritation might be driving the snarkiness. I can't do it any more, but I admire it in other people (once again, Birdie seems awesome, is it weird to be saying that again?)

My betrothed is a Georgia boy, who dated a long line of fancy Southern Belles he felt were too quiet. He happily tells everyone I'm his "loud yankee bitch," and his soft spoken mom is 100% horrified by everything about me and the combination white trash - latina family I'm from. I'm basically the most gauche person in the world and his family has farms that existed before the civil war. I'm pretty sure some of his ancestors are rolling over in their grave over my helping run it. Someone recently described us as being, "as opposite as cheese and chalk!"

I actually have a joking business idea that I want to start a dating website called Yankeebitches.com, for the man with a particular taste in women. I think snarky is just my normal state of being

DUDE. Mine is from Texas, and I swear he has better manners when he's totally relaxed than I do on my very best behavior. We're kinda doing the LDR thing so I haven't met too many of his people yet - but I know his family are moneyed and educated and probably just as polite (and omg I've had some college but my dad drives a tractor, you know? I don't know from this fancy manners stuff)

But, oh well. He and I get along better than I have ever in my life with any other human, and so my coping strategy so far involves a lot of going "lalala whatever happens will be fiiiiine...right?" Your story gives me hope that I might actually be right

Matt's mom actively hates me and tried to run me off for awhile. He and I went to the same damn college, but she still acts likes I'm a total idiot who isn't good enough for her precious spawn. At least we don't live 30 minutes from her house anymore

Matt has this southern way of seeming as if he has way better manners than me, while simultaneously being the most withering person on the planet. It's honestly impressive.

I wouldn't stress too much about meeting his family! It probably seems more intimidating than it actually will be! I'm sure your fella adores you and doesn't care if you're from a different upbringing. He's with you cause he knows you're fab!
