"There are no more of these HITs available" when the dashboard shows thousands available?

Looking at a task that has over 5k hits on it, and I was able to do a few of them but now I get there are no more hits even with the number so high. Does that mean every other one has already been claimed but just not completed, or is the count inaccurate?

sometimes, requesters limit how many of a hit YOU can do, for instance each individual turker can only do X number of HITS before getting that message.
