I've completed a little over 1700 HITS and have been wondering how I can get qualified for more interesting HITS? Is there a trick to it?

What do you mean waiting for quals to drop?

That means a Requester has posted HITs with the words Qualification or Qual in them. Qualifeye is the easiest current way to keep track but you can find them on MTurk or in your HIT scraper of choice as well.
