Hello, I just joined MTurk a few days ago and have been lurking here before registering. I am disabled and started MTurk hoping to be able to build my way up and make some money here and there.
Originally, I registered after seeing some higher tier Speechpad HITs because they seemed to pay really well for an hour or so of transcription, which I am very good at. (I play tabletop roleplaying games and take very detailed notes for our game sessions, and have a lot of experience doing transcriptions for meetings and the like.) Since I am quite ill, and don't have a ton of energy most days, the idea of being able to work a few hours for a one-time commitment and get paid a sum of money was very appealing to me!
After registering I started doing a lot of research on turking and found out it wasn't quite that simple-- it takes a while to qualify for better playing jobs, a lot of requesters have bad stats on TurkOpticon and are risky, especially early on, and Speechpad specifically requires you to register through their website which seems to be against MTurk's ToS.
However, even after grounding my expectations a bit, I thought that this would be a good opportunity for me to earn a bit of extra money. I figured I would try it until I reach 1000 HITs or so to see if it's a sustainable thing. So far, I am really enjoying the work because it gives me something to do while I am bedridden.
It is nice to meet you all, and thanks for having me!
