I don't see what HITs people could be doing to make the money they say they do ($50+ per day)

Been at this for over a year now. Over 5,000 HITs completed. Never made more than $22 in a day, and that took me like 11-12 hours.

Are people doing the transcription HITs or something? Those are the only things I haven't really done that I could think are available to where people could make more money than me, outside of closed quals.

I also get really irritated whenever people tell you to do "do your research." The only thing "doing your research" will lead you to is other people telling you to, "do your research."

The best advice I can give is to make sure you're not doing underpaid work. Personally, I rely heavily on reviews from TO & TV to make sure I don't burn myself out. My goal tends to be $50/day and I'm pretty consistent with hitting it. With that being said, I do have Masters and some closed quals, but nothing that guarantees money everyday. At least half of my earnings are from surveys and I don't do transcription.

It is tough making money on here. No doubt about it.

Harder than ever to make money on here without the masters qualification.....even then....not so much.

Mturk is a wasteland compared to what it used to be.

If Mturk is only giving you $2/hr I'd see what other opportunities there are out there outside of Mturk.

How much money am I missing out on because I'm unemployed? I've seen so many surveys that are about work-related crap.

You're missing out on a few, but it's not the end of the world. I've seen people scrape up $40-$50 a day having no quals or outside job. They probably work a solid 10-12 hours though doing a lot of penny and underpaid hits. Depends on how much time you can put into it. I only do about 4 hours a day and lately only making about $25-$30 a day. I don't have any good quals anymore. They either left mturk or changed their quals and I didn't get the new one. It gets annoying having to make a living primarily on surveys. Especially days like today when it's completely dead. I use dead days to catch up on anything I need to do non-mturk related so I can do mturk more during the week. No sense in staring at your screen getting mad when there's absolutely nothing to do. Honestly, mturk is just not as good in general as it was 3 or 4 years ago. To me anyway. Make sure you're using panda crazy or mturk suite or hit forker or turkmaster or all of them.

Yeah, I've been using Hit Forker and Panda Crazy. Used MTS before that. It's just that I've never had the kind of decent paying work appear at a consistent rate, no matter what day or time I was on, nor how long I stared at the screen. If I get lucky and see like a $5 survey and manage to complete it, rest assured, I won't see anything that pays more than $2.50 the rest of the day. I do the fractions of a dollar surveys down to ones that pay a shiny quarter, so long as they're estimated within 5 minutes.

People always talk up batches, but I've never come across anything special with batches. The MLDataLabeler ones that are good always run out before I even get a dollar from them. They're only a penny at a time, after all.

I have found that I might even do a little better during the "dead" hours. I do at least as well in the evening/at night with less competition as I do during the day.

My strategy at this point I term, "scavenger."

I also figured out that Panda Crazy doesn't help much if you have too many jobs on.

best way to make more is to hunt for the best quals
takes a long time but if you get them you can start making actual money

scraping for surveys yea is not much and in dead hours is often $2/hour

using scripts though is a must
a lot of people supplement with other sites

For some disabled people who are supported by loved ones or welfare, $2 an hour while casually browsing the internet at home is actually not the worst thing in the world. Just gives you some spare change to use, and is quite helpful. But if you're serious about it or trying to make actual money, you got to really be extremely strategic about finding quals, who you scrape for, when you work, what chats you use etc

I hit 25 dollars per day, even on the weekend. My hours are kind of spotty during the week, so I'd say I work a solid 3-4 hours for that $25 M-F, then a lot longer on Sundays and Saturdays; off and on all day long.

My goal right now is to double it to $50 per day.

They have high paying quals... Make sure you are in communities where requesters frequent and share secret quals.

There are communities where requesters share quals.
Occasionally.

They are rarely any good.

And when they are they rarely last for long.

And they are never secret.

Maybe SECRET was the wrong choice of word. What I meant was that is you don't know about the COMMUNITIES where they go and SHARE the fact that the quals exist, MAY be a SECRET to YOU. Better?

I also wouldn't say they are rare. It just depends if you meet the specifications they are looking for. They will be less RARE for people who meet the DEMOGRAPHICS of the requesters. Varies from not just requester to requester but from project to project. MOST OFTEN, requesters give better quals to people with more HIT's, lower rejection rates, etc.... Is that ALWAYS the case? Nope..... But it's not like we're dealing in absolutes here. Right?

We're talking probability vs. possibility.

Requesters visiting any type of community is rare. Giving members of said community a qual is more rare. The work that qual leads to being any good is more rare. That good work lasting for more than a few weeks is more rare (pretty much never happens.) Approval rate and demographics are irrelevant to what I was saying.

Just trying to avoid the spread of misinformation. Most high earners are not making their money from quals received from any community. Feel free to ask them directly if you have doubts.

Most just grind for 10-11 hours a day.

Not saying it happens all the time, but it does. I didn't start getting active in communities, like others and this one, until recently. There are def groups/communities where you NEVER/RARELY see requesters... Then there are those that you do, and they participate in the group regularly.....

Most high earners that I have talked to, have quals that they have been invited to/earned about in communities that not every Turker knows about/has access to. Hell, in the slack group I mentioned earlier, there's an invite only group in that group.... Again.... It happens.

We should avoid the misinformation in stating that you ONLY get quals from communities, just as we should avoid the misinformation in saying you NEVER get high paying quals from communities. We're NOT dealing in black and white here. As I've learned, some people like to misinform others because it benefits them. All I can say is question motives in reading what I or anyone says. I don't have a website/group with skin in the game... Just sharing what I have learned. Could be wrong... But hasn't failed me yet.

I'm all for anyone joining multiple forums/chats/communities if it will help them navigate mturk better to make money. Some requesters will advertise to other sites that might not come here and vice versa. It's a fact though that most requesters will not advertise on any forum/community.

We have no intention of misinforming our members here and apologize if you interpret it that way. I'm more than happy to help anyone who asks, though I'm not here quite as much lately with four kids at home from school.
