How much do qual/tests usually pay for? Because I have my script set to minimum 10 cents or higher. And what's the best way to tell it's a qual to a good batch?

Widely varies and it really depends. Sometimes a qual may have seemed good then the real work is lame. "Good" will also depend on your personal goals and opinions on hourly rates.

Admittedly I haven't been here long, but it seems to me so far it's dumb luck.

There seems to be a slight advantage for people back east who are up three hours earlier, but there's a high dumb luck quotient in either case.
