That's really up to you. The requester might let it slide or they might not. Do you feel that it's worth it to try? I used to do that from time to time, but now I just take the rejections. I know I messed up, so I'm fine with it. But if your numbers aren't really high enough to withstand many rejections, it might be worth reaching out to them.

I don't know what some of the older members would say, but I would. I dont think it ever hurts to explain what happened. In my experience it usually works at least half the time. Although not all, but many requesters are pretty understanding and usually want to help.
