That's how the military taught spanish at the presidio. they were immersed in it according to my son with lot of roll playing. after six months he spoke top rate spanish fluently. problem is it's the "perfect" spanish and doesn't always translate well with all of the different dialects.

Right, they don't speak the same Spanish in Spain as they do in Latin America (there's an xtra conjugation in Spain), and the Spanish they teach you is overtly formal. Also, every country has their own slang and shorthand. But, you have to start somewhere.

yes and he wouldn't speak spanish to the hispanics in houston. he would converse in english. he said it was an insult to speak to them in the spanish he spoke because of the differences. at least he honored that except one day he was working with some and they were trash talking the gringo. so when he got ready to leave he unloaded on them in his "perfect" spanish to let them know he understood everything they said.

lol good for him! My boyfriend was born in Mexico but he doesn't look hispanic at all. He does a lot of construction jobs and he frequently works with hispanic people. he usually doesn't let them know he speaks spanish at first because he likes to know what they think of him lol

I found that one just from looking at the regular website. I have Hitfinder and Panda Crazy running. Idk if I use the right things.

My Columbian Uncle constantly claims not to be able to understand other people's Spanish (my cousin married an Argentinian woman, for example) and I feel like it's half true and half sneaky Columbian Uncle.
