so yesterday i try to do a hit that says in their description this:

You must be 18 or order to participate this survey. At the end of the survey, you will receive a code to paste into the box below to receive credit for taking our survey.

Your responses will remain anonymous and will be published only in an aggregate fashion. Your participation is voluntary, and consent is implied by submission of the survey.



but when i try and do the survey the very first question they ask is if your male or female. so i go ahead and pick male and instantly get kicked out of the survey .. so i message the requester asking why am i getting kicked out because im a male when it clearly says that you just have to be 18 and it does not say anything about female only in the description..

so i wake up this morning to this reply from them

I'm sorry but yes we seek only women. Unfortunately, we have noticed in the past if we mention that we seek only women, men do pose as women. So, disclosing it hurts our research and we end up paying about half of the respondents for nothing. I wish Mturk would just allow us to send the survey only to women.


so needless to say they are lying as a requester to get work done , shady tactics at best , but wastes peoples time

I wouldn't really call that shady. a waste of time maybe but it's what, 10 seconds? I'm pretty sure it's been proven before that if they post all their quals people will just lie to meet those.

I wouldn't really call that shady. a waste of time maybe but it's what, 10 seconds? I'm pretty sure it's been proven before that if they post all their quals people will just lie to meet those.

the thing is people lie all the time so if that's what they are worried about then they need to not be requester. If they want women to only do it then that is fine, but be upfront about it especially when they are the ones offering the work. regardless if it was only 10 seconds , that 10 seconds is still very valuable.

I feel like I've sunk so low. I just panda'd an 80 cent survey.

Oh sure, brag about getting an 80 hit. I've only done 6 hits this morning, and they were all for 50 cents or less. D'oh! Sure, one of them had the $4 bonus, but because of the 5 minute wait between rounds, I spent 47 minutes for $4.50. Ugh.

Congestion, runny nose, nausea and diarrhea are the four most recent COVID-19 symptoms that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added to its growing list of potential signs of the novel coronavirus.
