The thing that I love best about Thoreau is that he nearly burned down his town after starting a forest fire

and yet was somehow forgiven and moved on with his life. (And that little incident did not define him). I think about that a lot - because we don't forgive folks that easily these days .

That really resonates with me - thank you for sharing! I think about that concept frequently too - I feel like people's mistakes define them forever now and everyone just seems to be OK with that.
