I asked him where the hell he heard about that? School, of course.

I didn't have to answer fully. I said it has to do with sex, and I recommend he not Google it. He thinks sex is gross right now.

I give him a year and a half before he Googles it.

It terrifies me that the internet is leaking into the school systems at such a quick rate these days. I mean, man, I've seen some shit.

*edit* Search engines SUCKED for a long time. I had dial-up when I was still pretty young, but everything these days is so categorized and accessible. You can get everything you want to know from Google searches and all of your content from like three or four providers. Everything feels so connected now. Sometimes it makes me concerned about parenting a child. I feel as though some things should come with age rather than having just enough cognitive prowess to plop "rule 34" into Google and get an eye full of cartoon porn.

It feels like a lot of parenting choices have been taken out of the hands of the parent. You can't really just keep kids off the internet these days.

Leaking? It's a friggin flood. The questions I have fielded thanks to other 5th and 6th grade boys who, apparently, have vastly more access than my son.

My kid learned the hard way to ask Mom before Googling. His little brain was blown once. (and again, I give it 1.5 years before he stops asking me first.)
