I had two cats in my life that could actually talk. I noticed they observe our inflections and they will mimic you if they can. They learn what common phrase comes after another common phrase. But we were fairly laid back in our household and I took Bonkers to visit friends in another state one time. We stayed with my girlfriend. You could ask bonkers what he was doing and he would meow out "I don't know." My friend was talking to him and he answered her and she started laughing. He turned his back to her and stuck his tail up in the air. We all knew what that universal language was.
