Maybe.

With unemployment at decades lows, I would consider it a non-risk. How intelligent does the Friend come off? Have they done anything like, written a book? Are they literate? Are they nodding off from slamming a G of dope? Are they on day 12 of a meth binge?

No?

They won't check.

They only check that to find a way to DQ you in a State where they need a reason.

If you have a pulse, disregard this selection and lie.

Source: Done some hiring of entry-level positions.
Yeah, I've been in many hiring positions. I've called to check university degrees but, never a high school. Most jobs that say they need an HS diploma or GED, don't. It's pretty standard to ask for that as a minimum. I don't condone lying on an application because that's worse than not having a GED, imo. That said, you're right about the current job market. Where I am, places are closing because they can't find enough employees. So, here, I'm sure if someone came in and their application said 'GED(expected 2018)' and they seemed like they had the aptitude, and said that they were currently trying to get their GED(I wouldn't personally dig because all I'm looking for is motivation and ambition) I'd let it slide. After they were hired, I probably would never even bring it up again, unless I was asking as a coworker, to check in with my employee. If they told me they failed miserably, I'd probably say, "better luck next time," and never bring it up again, for fear of embarrassing someone. Anyway, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.:)

Congratulations on not being an asshole. I wish everyone who hired for entry-level positions was like you (no sarcasm here, being serious) but I have heard the people who hired for more than one of my previous jobs talk about applicants, and they were pretty spectacularly not nice about the ones that didn't meet their standards for whatever reason.
Fair enough. My state just went Right to Work so you can get fired for no reason. But there are some restrictions on what they can ask.

I am not advocating that one be dishonest. If it was me, I would put 'No' if they asked. Maybe make a point of filling out the app in front of them so they know you're literate. Wearing clothes above jeans (as per previous thread). Caring enough to find a job and come groomed and respectful. Don't smell like you just ashed out a cig and stuck it in your shirt pocket. That sort of thing.

Maybe I am spoiled.

Larger corps and smaller towns... anyway Jaded @Jaded just don't take my stupid advice please...

The ones here in SC taunt the dogs next door by dancing along the fence between our gardens. It's probably really bad of me but I feel a certain satisfaction when the dogs score a direct hit on them.
Can confirm. Squirrels in SC are insane and have balls of steel.

Yep, my experience (my terrible experience, that has made me admittedly angry and bitter and distrustful) has all been in right-to-work states. Right-to-work sucks.
You might be a little spoiled :) I'm probably overly cautious. Probably the truth is somewhere in the middle of the two extremes?

I'm practicing first. I just don't know what to practice.

edit something something it's not me.
I really don't think you need to practice. You only have to be as smart as the dumbest person that you know, who graduated. I mean, really. I literally got every question on the first half correct. That's not a comment on my intelligence but, a remark on the level of the test. I really feel like, unless you can't balance a checkbook, you're more than capable. Plus, it's cheap. Go do it once. If you pass, great. If you don't you'll know why, and what to study. Then you can take it again next month, or whenever.:)

This is about the chillest social chat I've had on the internet in 17 or 18 months.
My jimmies may have been momentarily rustled, but I pretty much just got done admitting how I realized that that was largely my own fault, so...

Anyhow it's cool, splishsplash seems like a cool enough guy, and I need to go listen to dad music and think of crap to write about it anyway. Not sure this history of rock class was among my better decisions...yeah.

Here's hoping something shows up to work on besides that stupid weed batch. Later.

I'm confident that I could pass everything other than the math portion.

If that's the case, you'll get most of the math correct and maybe miss some of the harder stuff. Probably not though. Sounds like a passing score to me. It doesn't get past basic algebra. If you understand that you aren't actually trying to add letters but, find a numeric replacement for x, then you're smart enough. We don't set the bar especially high for HS equivalency in this country.

Yeah, just don't take it as a judgement of your character. It's not a character or IQ test.

Googled GED practice yet? I guarantee there's free resources out there that aren't BS.

Again, you live in Ala-Bam so there may not be resources for you :(

I live near Detroit. Here, a Regiment of Education PhD students will show up at your house and conduct you to the GED center on a magic carpet and hold your hand through the whole test.

Considering the trouble I have in these HITs with my microphone not picking up my voice when I'm screaming right into it, I think I'll pass on this one.
actually with this one, itll submit no matter what, they say that in the hit they know there will be issues but they turned off that problem for these

Oooooh, that's why mechanics charge $65 an hour! Well, as long as it's to support the arts, I guess I'm okay with it.
