Should online labor platforms have minimum wages? What should they be? How should they be enforced? Should workers on the same platform in different countries have different minimum wages? Are different minimum wage schemes needed for different kinds of platforms?

The German Metalworkers’ Union (IG Metall) and the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) invite comments on the topic of minimum wages on online labor platforms from any interested parties, especially workers, clients, platform operators, researchers, journalists, trade unionists, and policy makers. The comments will be circulated among workers, clients, platform operators, trade unionists, and policy makers. The goal of the project is to develop and disseminate a nuanced view of the applicability of minimum wages in the effort to ensure fair working conditions in online labor platforms.

I feel like if there was a minimum wage most of the work would just disappear. In theory I'm for it, as there's always someone willing to do work for less than you and that causes a race to the bottom, especially when turk is open to other countries with a lower standard of wages. But at the same time, it seems like a lot of this work would seem less necessary to the requesters if it suddenly cost more.

I would think that doing minimum 10 cent a minute hits would be directly self serving. A year and a half ago I tried every hit and did a lot of penny hits and I never made any good money until I started turning my nose up to those hits. Now I will not even do a penny hit, unless they put up 20000 Ci's or something like that.

It would be nice to have a company who doesn't see the service and its workers as a magical piggy bank. The lameduck stewardship of mtrak is half the problem, and all bad practices from the workforce comes after. 'cuz sometimes you hafta eat.

This is the same rationale that was given by workers before actual labor unions came to the fore. I find the fact that history always repeats itself both fascinating and somewhat scary.

We all deserve better. But I'm also grateful for what I'm able to do. Instead being forced to get a job where I would fall over and get hospitalized due to illness. I hope for the best for the future and work is still there for all of us.
