I had a friend tell me, "Why would I pay $20 for a scarf when I can go to Target and buy a perfectly good one for $12?"

I replied, "Sure you can, if you want to support cheap Chinese labor and want lesser quality."

Kind of made me mad. Thanks for your support of hand made goods!

But, people who see and handle the $20 scarves are often willing to pay for them because they really *are* worth that money. Our mail lady at work bought a purple one for her daughter in law who is a Minnesota Vikings fan, lol.

We make sure he has many many lesser priced scarves. $12-15 seems to be the magical price point.

yuuuup. like i get not supporting a friend if they are trying to sell MLM weight loss shakes or wraps.
but handmade items? hell yes! support the hell out of that! i made a scarf once. it took forever (i was very new to crochet, lol)

I run into the same thing all the time with art. Sure, you can buy a image printed on canvas sold as a "painting" from overseas for way cheaper than a hand painted one. When pricing my work, I've always had a range of price points, but realized that my prefered type of customer is one who appreciates the time/effort I go to in making something, not one who only focuses on the price. A customer who is willing to pay the price you ask for your goods is one who appreciates your talent and work, and one who will truly appreciate the item. The best thing you can do for a friend who is a maker is support them by buying their stuff, and if you can't afford it, the next best thing is telling others about their work. Tell your son to hang in there, that there are many people who will gladly buy his items, and that to not waste much time and worry on the ones who prefer cheap inferior stuff.

Do you still own bitcoin? You might want to diversify just in case. Bitcoin futures are coming next week, which means all the people on wall street will be shorting it and there is going to be a massive correction. Probably a good chance it will fall if that happens. I sold at 17,500 two days ago and now Ive moved my stuff into eth and litecoin
