I only started yesterday, and am based in Thailand ...

Just wondering is this a really tiny number?

and if so, will it improve substantially when I get to 1000 HITs?

Unfortunately, you're going to be very limited in what you can work on just because of your location. Most HITs do seem to have US-only quals on them. Your numbers are still low, though, so I think you will see an increase as you do more HITs. A lot of stuff does open up at 1000 HITs and even more at 5000. But not having a Thailand location qual on my account, I can't really say that there will be a whole lot.

I mostly endorse what @aveline said, but keep in mind that when mturk says there are something like 500,000 jobs available, this is not the same as the number of hits, since many of these are batches with thousands of actual tasks. I am US-based, with between 1000 and 5000 hits completed, and I normally see 200-600 hits available. You'll definitely jump up after 1000, but not to US levels.

I got to 1000 approved a couple of days ago, and really, just a few new hits added. I'm still pretty much at 100+ jobs available at any one time.

But I'm doing ok, thankfully. The major pain is not actually the jobs I can't do. Rather it's being paid only in Amazon gift points, but that's a separate moan
