Full disclosure: I tried to reply to one persons comment, "That TO is weird", with a smiley face (I think it's weird too, if by TO you mean Turk Opticon) and ended up reblogging a sassy comment. In my attempt to delete the mistake, I ended up sharing a blank reblog of the "weird TO" comment! (Because can you even delete these things?) So no, not drama - just me being bad at the internet.

Furthermore, I do my absolute best to treat everyone fairly. The processes for these HITs are very delicate and I am trying to curate the best workers to handle this data. These aren't surveys and should be treated with the closest attention to detail. I will reinforce this in the directions so it is clear that every instruction should be noted and followed to the letter.

I welcome any thoughts, concerns, or suggestions for everyone getting the most success out of these HITs. And as always, everyones work is appreciated!

**Also yes, JobSight is zlien. I had to create a new account because the email I used originally was connected to another department at my company and they were frustrated by the overlap.
***You can find out more about what zlien does at our website. It may help provide context to the work being done by everyone!

Would it be appropriate to use this thread for questions about your HITs? Then you can reply to questions en masse to workers? It might cut down on multiple emails with the same repeat questions.

Yes, that's perfect. I try to check this as much as possible, so I'll be on the lookout.

Hi! I just checked and there weren't any of your hits available :( Do you need a qualification to do these or are they open to anyone? Thanks!

It still shows some outstanding, but I don't have quals so they must have been snatched up.This is the busiest week of the month, so expect many more batches daily, through November 9th.

NOTE: I'm passing the Mechanical Turk torch to another employee. There will be a learning curve. Today was their first attempt at making a template and there have been some issues. These will get worked out - keep posting here to let us know where the hiccups are. Thanks everyone!

I've responded to the emails, I would like to share here because there were a lot of issues with this.

*Note: this was the first example I provided to a turker, so it may vary from the specific county you were rejected for, but all were rejected because the correct link was not provided:

The directions for this county (each county has unique instructions that populates in the instructions box - very important to pay attention) were as follows:

Click "property search". Search by street number and street name. If the correct Property Report is found, click "view details" on the results page and *** THEN CLICK "DETAILS" ON THE TOP LEFT CORNER OF THE PROPERTY REPORT TO FIND THE UNIQUE URL YOU **HAVE** TO USE FOR THIS HIT. EX. http://propaccess.hidalgoad.org/clientdb/Property.aspx?prop_id=702387 VS. http://propaccess.hidalgoad.org/clientdb/Property.aspx?cid=1&prop_id=702387&year=2017.

You provided
http://propaccess.traviscad.org/clientdb/Property.aspx?prop_id=813000
NOT
http://propaccess.traviscad.org/clientdb/Property.aspx?cid=1&prop_id=813000&year=2016

See: http://recordit.co/9h4uRRd3g0
This is also included at the bottom of the instructions box "***Read the instructions for each county very carefully and follow them exactly. It is very important the specific link requested is provided. The URL you provide is the most important part. If you do not provide the correct URL, there is no document to support your transcription. This could result in a rejection. Look closely at the examples provided.***"

I understand you all can open both links. The link you provided expires or something and doesn't work for me, the latter does. I tried to be as clear as possible in the instructions so that the correct link gets provided and workers are aware of the rejection risk. If you give me the wrong link and it's expired, I have to go and do all of the research again to get the correct link, update the spreadsheet, and then pass it along to someone else to complete the process. That's a lot of work/time wasted for everyone.

In the spirit of transparency, I have provided a video of exactly what happens when I use the incorrect link.

I don't see any examples or different instructions for each County.

Mine all look like this. It has a different County name, but otherwise identical.

Because I didn't realize you can't see the URL box in the search example, I've updated the video:

Hey, I didn't get to work on any of your hits yet, but I just checked the links that you posted and I think that website has a critical bug. If you click on "New Search" button it will get the same error.
Edit: Actually if you click on any link it will lead to the same Runtime error. This is something that you might need to check out and give proper instructions.

I can't read the text you are highlighting. Could you copy it over please?

Sorry for the inconvenience, I just want to make sure if I work on them again, I am doing it correctly. I hate making mistakes.

If you make your browser bigger I think you'll be able to see, but basically it's code that says
  • Follow the given URL to the ${Project County} assessor website.

  • ${County website link instructions}. You may also attempt to search by owner name, if provided.
When I upload a spreadsheet there is a Project County column and a County website link instructions. Each time the county changes, the website and instructions change.

"Travis County
http://www.traviscad.org/property_search.html
Click "property search". Search by street number and street name. If the correct Property Report is found, click "view details" on the results page and *** THEN CLICK "DETAILS" ON THE TOP LEFT CORNER OF THE PROPERTY REPORT TO FIND THE UNIQUE URL YOU **HAVE** TO USE FOR THIS HIT. Dallas County
http://www.dallascad.org/SearchAddr.aspx
Search by address number and street name.

Harris County
http://www.hcad.org/records/
Use the "Real Property Search" and select "Property Address". Enter the street number and street name.

Grayson County
http://esearch.graysonappraisal.org/
Select "By Address". Search by street number and street name.
"

etc etc.
