I just had a survey with an hour expiration...
and when I put in the code, it said the deadline has passed
12 minutes after I started the hit.
I wonder if daylight savings time is the culprit,
because I believe that the PST side of the country just turned their clocks back
HIT pages use your system clock to display remaining time on HITs and trigger the expired message, so if your system clock isn't synchronized with mturk's, you can get false expiration.

That's not true, it doesn't have anything to do with your system clock. If that would be true, we could make hits never expire by changing our time :D.

Yes, it is true, or at least it was for a very long time. The HIT still expires when it's supposed to on mturk's side. It just displays incorrectly on the preview page in your browser if the times don't match.

I see the time change treated everyone well....

It's very true, feel free to test it yourself. They verify the time on their end when you submit, but the expiration is on the client side. Its not very well set up.

I verified myself, that's why I am saying it. Think about international workers too. Their working day ends at the same time like us, it doesn't have anything to do with their time zone.

Your system clock also has a time zone setting.

Do exactly this.
  1. Accept this HIT: https://www.mturk.com/mturk/preview?groupId=3RO2E92DZV19BZSVSUVS03ZGJZ14DW
  2. Go to your queue: https://www.mturk.com/mturk/sortmyh...ABXQACEFzc2lnbmVk!#!Deadline!0!#!&pageSize=50
  3. Set your clock ahead 1 hour.
  4. Go to the Jon Taylor HIT you accepted in the beginning.
  5. Wait a few seconds.

Your system clock also has a time zone setting.
And that can be changed, you should try it too and see that it doesn't have anything to do with mturk.

This is all sorts of wierd. Zoltars approving an hour early. I'm assuming that's because submitted hits are on the users local time and the AA approval time is not changed with the time change.......

And, forgot I still had PC running and just caught a $3 hit. Hope I'm not screwed on this. Will update when done.....

UPDATE - Looks like everything with hits is back to normal. Accepted and submitted the hit no problems at all.

Ah. I just forgot its only 5:00am and not 6:00am...I know it gets darker WAY earlier but I love falling back better than springing forward.
