Facebook has a usage stats app (iOS & Android) that they pay $20/mo to keep installed. It can also be installed on up to 2 other family member phones to increase $20 per phone. You may have seen it in the past and failed to join, but it's now available much more widely. The project is thru Betabound, so joining it will increase your odds of getting into other beta projects as well. I've been using it for ~6 mo for a total of around $200.

This will monitor your usage via a VPN, and statements about privacy are pulled from their FAQ below.

Their FAQ about your privacy:

This test is sending information about how you use your Social Media products. It gathers data about the apps themselves, when each is used and how often.
Please know that your security and your privacy is very important to us. Note the following: Information being passed is anonymous and only being sent via VPN to ensure a secure connection shares this data.
Facebook is only interested in group data and not your individual phone or information. We have thousands of testers on this project. Facebook is looking exclusively at group trends, usage, and aggregate information. They are not looking at you individually.
The invitation code is the only connection they have to the data. They don't know your name, who you are or any other personal information. Facebook does not have access to the Betabound system and is restricted from seeing this project.

You don't even need a FB account, it isn't tied to one. You get an Amazon gift card about a week after each month ends, digital code sent to your email. Yes, you can use a junk phone in which the app is literally the only account you're signed into.

Betabound is plenty reputable, they're a 3rd party beta service provider. They're used by Google, FB, Roku, all sorts of big names, but of course if you have privacy concerns this might not be for you

This project has made the news

"We asked Guardian Mobile Firewall’s security expert Will Strafach to dig into the Facebook Research app, and he told us that “If Facebook makes full use of the level of access they are given by asking users to install the Certificate, they will have the ability to continuously collect the following types of data: private messages in social media apps, chats from in instant messaging apps – including photos/videos sent to others, emails, web searches, web browsing activity, and even ongoing location information by tapping into the feeds of any location tracking apps you may have installed.” It’s unclear exactly what data Facebook is concerned with, but it gets nearly limitless access to a user’s device once they install the app."
