No windmills here -- but there is this where me & savvy @savvylabell live:

Naval Station (NS) Norfolk, the world’s biggest naval base, is situated in south-eastern Virginia. The base was established in 1917 and covers an area of approximately 3,400 acres.

well, okay. that explains it. No, seriously, the worst place I've ever visited was Huntsville, alabama. it's a lowly little town but it has to be the east coast version of Twin peaks. There is a huge and largely secret military base there. If you really are concerned dig around. you probably wouldn't have to go far to find out others are having the same problem. Sonar perhaps? And I'm pulling crap off the top of my feeble brain. But too many things we laughed at a few years ago have basis in fact now. There was a base not long ago in Conroe, TX, Boone, where are you? Where experimental planes were kind of tested. i think they closed it. But when those things came out to play the number of UFO sightings rose quickly in the area. there can be one cat in a bunch that will act out but to have several i unusual and i've been around plenty of cats. if you can try the better dry foods, blue buffalo types if you can afford it. they don't eat so much of it and you can usually find one that will stay down. i have one cat that thinks he's starving all of the time. he's very sweet and no anger issues but i brought him in too young and his mother would come to me and ask for him back. but i couldn't. he ate everyone's food and he was never starving as she was a good mother. if i let him he will eat wet food until he gets sick. dry food not so much. if a cat in its early days didn't know where its next meal was coming from, they will also have that feeling for the rest of their lives. they won't be comfortable unless they've got all of the food all of the time. for that reason i leave some dry food out for them between wet feeding.

he was found on the streets of Boston, so I think he was probably feral. That clawing thing didn't last that long - but it sure happened more than a few times. He was so smart (my smartest cat). And after that initial 'getting over being feral' stage - he was lovely. (he was lovely then, too.....just not *always*)
I've said it over and over, cats are socialist animals. They have the system down. they sneak into our homes and into our hearts. But they understand that for our help they need to give their's so they leave us little "gifts". Some never get over that abandonment fear and can't be brought in that easily but the smarter ones understand. Just like people who've been abused. that silly feral that came in in the dead cold of winter on his own by his own decision is still in the house but thankfully goes out during day. he really is an outside cat but he didn't want to freeze to death this past winter. I still can't pet him though he's a little better about it but he sure likes his comfort. i can only smile at him. his survival techniques make me smile.

i was pissed yesterday bad, i sent out four somewhat angering emails to various requesters telling them how i felt about their SHORT survey that took triple what they said, and the FUN survey that was not FUN, and i told them how highly underpaid their SHORT, FUN surveys were, i then told them it would be a good idea to take those words out of the HIT description
Good for you! I feel like doing that sometimes, but get too intimidated to actually do it. Glad you let them know!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and get flakey but I'm serious. We've got people going to different areas of the world and having to leave because they are ill from the unheard noises they are experiencing. Have you explored where you live? Are you near a windmill cluster? Or magnetic force waves of some kind? Something an animal close to the ground might pick up on easily and the pain cause its personality to change? We don't live in a normal whatever that was, world anymore. On the other hand, cats can be known for this behavior, hence the bad rep they have. We tamed them but only because they allowed us. Cats have socialism down to a science. Something in their environment has upset them. You said they lived in cages for a while. PTSD, they are vulnerable too.

So as Kat8mouse @Kat8mouse said yes, but we've all lived here our whole lives. I've moved a lot, but only in a few mile radius. I keep moving within 10 miles or less of where I was born, lol. Only my horse and dog are not from where all the bases are, and they've both adjusted fine. I think it's just the moving bit that has upset them, but they'll have to suck it up, as there is at least one more move in our future within the next year, i hope. Away from the bases. LOL

yeah, I've lived in places where I know my cat didn't like it. She tolerated larger one floor one bedroom apartments but hated the efficiency. When I moved to the loft that i wish i'd never left, she loved it. she ran up and down the stairs all day.

cool beans, got 2 rejections. One for not finishing the survey (not true) and another for not being a natural-born US citizen (also not true). great start to the day.
