I kinda wish I lived in a world where landlines were still the norm. There's a certain innocence and charm to it.

My tired eyes read that first line and initially saw landmines.

Yet somehow, between rating the skill involved in performing a partial nephrectomy and evaluating to what extent I experience CENTENARIAN, it kind of made sense to my brain to agree with you about the landmines.

Just read an email from my kids school, they've been practicing lockdowns for years now. Now the police are going to help make it even scarier for the kids. They are going to come into the school as training and all of the kids are supposed to be hidden. Holy fuck, this is not the world I grew up in! I had to deal with fire drills and tornado drills, lockdowns weren't even a thing. I'm glad they are being pro-active about it, but it's gonna terrify my kids. Any other parents thoughts on this?

I have no idea what to say. That's getting to be too much. Why are they not just guarding the door and so on of the school better instead of scaring the kids with drills. I'll let you this story though.

I knew a young man once who was in the military, Ft. Bragg, 82nd Airborne. One October day he and his squad met on the exercise field as their daily routine. One soldier had the wrong T shirt on for the day of the week. They sent the whole squad back and put them behind by 30 minutes in their morning run.

Shots broke out on the field. This young man and his squad were not near the shooting because of being behind in their routine. But everyone hopped into action. Soldiers pulling their injured team mates off the field. Leave no man behind was their motto that morning as though they were in actual war which they were.

The special forces went into action and found the shooter who by now shot nineteen people and killed one, a captain. His captain. The one he was literally aiming for. The shooter was one of their own. He was also a crack shooter and didn't miss his marks. He still sits in Levenworth to this day having won an appeal to avoid death. He was the soldier who was picked on at Desert Storm. The one they left scorpians in his shoes. He didn't take it well and planned revenge. The found him hunkered down in his Fox Hole that morning with his guns. He had prepared for this thing.

The young man remained uninjured on the outside. On the inside he was hurting. You don't get attacked by one of your own on your own base. This was still the nineties. I asked him one day what they did to the kid with the wrong T shirt. On a normal day that would of been a hazing. He said "I went up to him, grabbed his hand and said thank you, man!"

Yes, thank you for the angel on his shoulder that day.

I have not spoken to his in years but yes I know him. This was before these things became common if one can call them that.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Kreutzer,_Jr.

here is the wiki link on the creepy guy. Last time I checked he'd won appeal off of death row because he was able to prove how he was treated in the war. it's sad that soldiers, specially trained would treat another soldier that way but I think people change when they get sent to war. And this was a case where they were picking on the wimpy guy but the wimpy guy could only be pushed so far. He planned and got even so to speak. The young well then young, man that I know had a sergeant as a mentor and this man was severely injured. It caused much grief for the young soldier. He finally found out he could see the base chaplain about it because a chaplain can't tell your secrets. Then suddenly he was on straight 48 hour duty with a crash afterward. he started to get back to himself after that.
