How about a "Mentor Banner" to members who are available to help out new members, can be reached via PM, who solicit questions throughout the day in the Daily Work Thread and who frequent the MTurk Help & Resources threads?

ETA: Would be a volunteer type based thingy offered to select members (loose idea)
I do like this idea and I think it would be great, especially if we had enough members volunteer for it.

a reasonable amount of posts/week could be used; so, say you have a lurker who has introduced themselves and thrown in a comment here or there before decides to start posting HITs more often, this wouldn't penalize them for join date or even for previous posts, but reward them for becoming an active member. Setting some kind of "active" member threshold could help with that.

But like Kerek @Kerek said this does sound better in theory than practice, I'm not sure how feasible this is.
I'm not sure if we have a way we can grab someone's weekly post count, but that would be a good way to judge it.

Kerek @Kerek just volunteered as tribute.

Just scraping all members?
I don't even agree with the theory, again because it discounts active new members.

How so? In my mind it would treat new members the same as older lurkers who haven't yet been posting consistently. Almost like once they reach the "active" threshold it would be a trigger, putting everyone on the same playing field. Does that make sense? I can't even really tell, tbh

If you mean as another in the OR( < 3 months, < 500 posts, < 25 posts/week) or whatever the values are, then that's fine, I just don't want to exclude a new member who's posting 10 HITs and 15 text posts a day during their first couple months when they should win.

The only thing I wouldn't like is having it be something ambiguous, like leaving it up to moderator discretion or something to that extent.

yeah I think that's what I was getting at. Basically, if turker1 just joined and posts x/week and turker2 is a member who joined 2.5 months ago but only posted once a week, once turker2 starts posting x/week it would treat them as the same from whenever that x/week was first achieved

I like the idea of mentors, we have many experienced and helpful members on this forum.

I also like the rookie award. It might be an incentive for newer members to become more active on the forum and also might help them learn more about how the forum works in the process.

Rookie award seems meaningful .... I would split it maybe 30 HP, 15 CP, 15 RA

As for the mentor seems like a good idea I could volunteer....... :cautious:

I don't know if it's possible, but could the HP winners be ranked higher if they add a time to the hits that they post. The completion times post are very rare here. Thanks
As much as I love this idea, I will say that I will often post hits that I don't qualify for that I know others do, therefore I would be unable to give a time. Just a note.

I agree with this. I do the same. I also think it would be logistically difficult, if not impossible, to rank HIT sharing higher if time is included. It'd require someone going through each day's post and counting up how often times are posted and who posted it.

Regarding the mentoring idea, I'm a noob and would like to participate, if you wanted to try it out on a small scale.

I've been on MTC a month now, and a worker 3 weeks. I came here because my search for MTurk tips and tricks led me to the resources here, which I have read several times. I lurked for a few days, and realized how resourceful this forum is, so I joined. 90% of my information, and 90% of my earnings, are a direct result of this forum, and I really appreciate all the unrecognized work it takes to run and create this. TBH, I didn't even see the Donate button up top until it was mentioned earlier today. I will definitely make a contribution (once I figure out the best way) because it is the very least I can do.

As to the other comments I've read about personalities, shitposting, off-topic, etc: the forum isn't perfect, but it's real, it's helpful, it's entertaining, and it's a community - at least to my outsider view. Not everyone will always get along, some people are always sarcastic, but that is the way all communities are :blep:. I don't really care for the wrestling gifs, or some of the other ones, but if I see something I don't like, I keep scrolling...no worries! I REALLY like the "spoiler" button, because it helps filter out things, and after a while users learn when to click on a poster's spoiler button, and when not to . Maybe the spoiler button usage could be used for off-topic stuff too? Not sure, just a thought.

As for the forum's responsiveness, I've asked several questions, and have been pleased and surprised how responsive and helpful everyone is. The earlier comment about not giving all the secrets away - I totally understand that, and don't feel animosity as a noob. Experienced turkers have put their time in, and they deserve to keep any secrets they want to keep or share. I appreciate any input I get from the pros, and I take it seriously. You have to find your own way in this - if it was so easy, everyone would do it. Everyone isn't, so there's some mystery to the game of MTurk. I've enjoyed figuring things out as I go along, and I've only scratched the surface.

Anyway - thanks for all you do, thanks for letting me be a part of it.

sweetie1018 @sweetie1018 U can PM me or ecko @ecko or anyone else really in here contributing and im sure they wouldn't mind answering questions
Thanks, I'll remember that. :highfive:

Y'all know what your talking about, based on what I've seen. I'm still taking it slow, only doing a few hits in a batch to avoid rejections, and sticking with green TO requesters for surveys. I've got a few of the suggested startup scripts running, and I like to learn as I go before asking for help. Hoping this weekend I can get to 500 (almost there) and get access to a few more opportunities. It sometimes seems like a slow process, but I've made over $100 in 3 weeks, just going really slow, and I'm THRILLED with that!

Just read through a wall of text on multiple pages here so forgive me if i miss anything.

Award stuff:

I think the suggestions and changes for both awards are great. If there's one thing I would add it would be another button similar to the like button but one that denotes a good paying hit. Something to differentiate it from another post with likes. I think visually seeing a hit get a lot of "great pay" votes will encourage people to do it and feel thankful to the poster if they keep doing it consistently. I don't know if this is even possible on this current platform you use but I think it would be a nice addition and would help with deciding who a good hit poster is after tallying the "great pay" votes.

PE stuff:

I think its totally fine that Kadauchi @Kadauchi removed the breakdown feature for two reasons. Its his tool and he can do what he wants especially since he made it available for free and people have used it extensively to up their earnings and become very solid turkers. Also I think it encourages reaching out to each other for help.
Just because the breakdown doesn't exist anymore doesn't mean you can't ask the person what they worked on either publicly or in PM and is a much better way to get information than looking at an export. Its not like people exported their breakdowns on accident and went "oops I didn't mean to do that"... Its clear they wanted to share and I'm sure most of the same people will be willing to share now. I've even heard humbleturker @humbleturker straight up say to ask him if u were ever curious about the stuff he does.
Like most people here I value hard work and effort and I think reaching out and making the effort to know someone and help them out in return for help yourself is a valuable skill and fosters a more helpful and friendly community.

Personality stuff:

I don't think I've made a post this long on the forum before and its definitely a bit weird :p I think lightheartedness and joking in the forum is an extremely important thing to have especially with people working on a platform like mturk every day. Personally I'm very fortunate not to have to do that and when I come home to relax, this forum is one place I look to, to interact with cool and interesting people. I'm an extremely social and outgoing person and its nice to see people who generally aren't so outgoing IRL open up and show a bit of who they are on the forum. I also like to (try to) brighten up people's day by injecting some humor or silliness into an otherwise grindy day that people have. My humor can definitely be dry at times or just overly dorky or silly and sometimes a bit nsfw and I try to keep it within reason or not go over the top. I have no issue with admins PM'ing me or directly saying in the forum to tone it down and I appreciate that they take the time to reach out to me politely and I always try to respond with just as much respect as they have given me. :aveline:

Even at my IRL job and life in general I try to carry a lighthearted attitude and joke around, but I have no issue being serious in an instant when it requires. People know me as being a generally happy person and if i'm not cracking jokes regularly or being silly it usually means there's something not right.

This section isn't even about suggesting anything because I feel like how admins and the site in general handles non work related content is fine and I just wanted to make it public that I welcome feedback when its needed and you'll continue to see the professional side of me in those conversations.
