Hi there.

So...I don't know a whole lot of people that write, and I figured I'd set up a thread to see if I could get some writing buddies. Maybe share resources, words counts/goals, stuff like that?

I know there are subreddits and forums that are dedicated to this, but since I know y'all figured I'd just feel around here.

So...yup.

I'd definitely be up for this! Currently trying to get on the self publishing path myself in romance genre. My aim is for each book to be approximately 70k words because that's what the niche I write in expects. I published two very short stories early this year that flopped on their heads so I recently started a new pen name. Now it's just a matter of getting my words written lol. Procrastination is killing me :ahhh:

Procrastination is a huge problem. I've been trying to set a word goal each day and I'm not letting my self do anything other than turking if I'm not at it. Once I get in the habit it's not so bad it's just getting back in the habit lol!

Side note if anyone wants scrivener I think I have 1 or 2 discount codes for it. I love it and don't think I could ever write without it.

Thank you haha. It was definitely unnerving self publishing, but I think it is less intimidating than the traditional route. Plus it lets me practice with random things and upload them...and if they flop, I just move on.

Oh my goodness, procrastination is my enemy :ahhh:

I recently downloaded this editable Beat Planning sheet (given, it's for Romance) that has been helping me break down the books into more manageable sections. Since I'm usually the type of writer who just throws themselves into a story without any planning, I figure this will help with production a bit more. I just began my second draft last night and hammered out the prologue and part of the first chapter thanks to that sheet lol.

Oh really? I have been eyeing Scriviner forever but haven't been sure whether or not I'd like it. But I think that's mainly because I wasn't used to the software yet. That is awfully kind of you to offer me a discount code. I'd definitely be interested in getting in on it because...let's be honest... I am horrendous at this whole "keeping things organized and planned" and I think Scriviner would clear that up :ghost:

Okay, I'll send you a PM with the code. It expires on 09/30 though.

I can't say enough good things about scrivener, and I don't even use all of the fancy bits.

Enjoy :D

It does take getting used to, but I think once you do get used to it it's the best thing ever.

Is anyone going to do NaNoWriMo this November?

I'm thinking about it, but I feel like the two books I'm already trying to finish might be a bit much to add to that O.O

Normal NaNoWriMo is a litle more "strict" regarding word count, it's mostly the same as Camp though. Except it also doesn't have a little cabin. The subreddit is real active during oct/nov/first part of december though.

Yeah, my cabin was a total fail for July's camp so I don't think I'm gonna pay much attention to those if I do Camp NaNo again next year >.<

If anyone is looking for a free option (maybe you are just a dabbler like me!) I found ain't just before doing camp nano and love it! The thing I think I love most is the that within your one doc you can have multiple side "tabs" so to speak, so I had them named like "Story", "Ideas", "Questions", "character development" that sort of thing, and as time went on I had a little encyclopedia of information about my own story that was right there for quick reference. You can also have the background be light or dark which is great. Oh and it also opens like a real little program, not a webpage which is something I hate about most 'extensions' in the chrome web store.

I always try to participate in NaNo somehow, even when I don't have time to write. Last year, for example, I hosted writing groups for my town once a week at the donut hop. Sold more donuts, gotta hang out with writing nerds, everyone wins. Even though I'm not working there anymore I might see about hosting there again because I love donuts and now I might have time to write this year! It's been hard in the years since finishing school though; getting a creative writing degree killed my creativity.

I also love donuts! I hope you participate this year! I know it's technically "cheating" but I think I was going to work on editing and rewriting WotS2 (my original NaNo for last year.) Instead of writing something new. With how much I have to rewrite it would be almost like writing new anyway!

If we get some turker people around to doing it I think it would be a good motivation boost.

I need to be a better "boss" to myself with writing. I keep stepping into pitfalls with procrastination and excuses... "But I have to do X this week so I don't have time to write!" Writing is hard. :help:

Going full Mulan here and definitely going to climb to the top :angry2:
