kinda cool, kinda sucks. the cool is that i've seen Kuiper Systems in leo satellite constellation fcc filings for a few years but never knew it was amazon in hiding unless amazon recently acquired them. the bad news is the cost is unknown so i dont know if it is a better value than centurylink dsl.

in my city, its determined by public right-of-way licenses. comcast has a grip on the pay tv right-of-way license and centurylink has the telephone right-of-way license and those are the only two internet providers in town. i'm sure both comcast and centurylink pay kickbacks and bribes to city officials tp keep other competitors like verizon fios or att u-verse from getting a right-of-way license. If you want to provide pay tv or internet, you would have to do it wirelessly or thru satellite so public right-of-ways arent needed.
