I'm guessing that wasn't supposed to swing back that high and hit her. It literally should not have hit her unless she gave it a push when letting it go, then it would.
I think she sorta leaned forward a little after she let it go, when she laughed.

I might have watched this way too many times trying to figure out what happened.

You are correct! I watched again and noticed that now that you've said it! She did step forward a hair. But it still should have missed her by a tad, or hit her less hard...unless she "added" energy to it's kinetic energy by pushing it.

she definitely moved forward a few inches. and there is some weight to the pendulum-weight, so you'll see not only the striking of the face, but also the shock she registers
