i also want to add another reason I never suggested it is because i'm aware of some of the drawbacks: a lot of people won't want to switch between two threads (as far as I know, mturk forums have always had one thread as a catch-all chat thread and work thread), and it would also be another load on the mods to moderate two separate threads. but i guess point one depends on whether it becomes a "thing" in the first place

I still really like the idea in theory though, maybe less newer members would feel left out from having their questions ignored/missed in a fast thread, and maybe more requesters would be willing to chat about their HITs in the thread instead of having to make their own thread that most people don't check out anyway

i'm also kind of latching on to what kryssyy said, it seems like what you want is kind of like the @mention thread, except instead of mentioning people you mention a random thought you had or something random that happened during your day
It can be anything you want it to be. Not just random mention thread. Whatever the community wants. That's just a blueprint. Like it really hit me getting that trophy. 80 posts and most in working thread and I don't post hits. People either hate me or have me on ignore. I legit didn't realize I posted that much.

I don't think anyone would think that it's dumb. We've actually had a lot of discussions about doing this in the past (mostly on mtg though) and the consensus was that people didn't want to switch tabs from one thread to another. If this is something that members would be interested in, someone could post a thread and direct members for their opinions to feel it out and see what everyone thinks.
I also understand habits are hard to break. Argh. Two tabs would take some getting used to I'm sure.

When we've talked about this before, it also came up that it would take a lot of moderation and would be difficult for us to moderate. It would take a lot of moderator time to make sure people are posting the right things in the right place and to move posts between threads if necessary. What if someone posts a HIT and someone else responds to it with some commentary that is just sort of related to the HIT? How related is related enough? What if the first sentence or paragraph is related but the second sentence or paragraph isn't related to MTurk at all? This is where it gets tough.

Also, if I remember right, we did try an "off topic" thread at MTG at one point and no one used it since it was optional. Unless it's forced/moderated hard, I think there'd be some people who might opt into it and want to chat in another thread but others wouldn't, and the whole thing wouldn't really "work" unless everyone cooperated.

I did not think of that point. I apologize. I toned down my postings today and will try to keep it in moderation in the work thread.

I doubt this is something worth consideration, but it's something I think of while in a Discord room: the @everyone notification. I figured some people might miss the upcoming forum maintenance banners and a notification might help. Too far fetched?

Edit: or just for notifying people about the awards voting

That would be nifty, but it would probably have to be something only maybe mods/admins have access to because I can see that getting abused real quick like.

edit: Saying that as me, not like official answer or anything.

Oh yeah, I should have included that part too lol
I think it'd be great if it was a tool admins could use. That way everyone would see forum updates posted in the hit thread without having to manually find the page, like the forum guidelines link Aveline posted a week or two ago

If I recall right, we do have the ability to use @everyone, but it's a toggle on/off so either everyone here has it or no one has it. I don't believe there was any way to give the ability only to mods, but I can check again later.

Yeah, there's an addon that makes it so you can do that. I had considered it at one point, but I wasn't sure if anyone would care. We can look into it, though.
I didn't know it was possible, it's been brought up a lot in group pms.

It would be nice to have a way to quantify an amount of times people post times on hits the same way hits posted are tracked. There just as, if not more useful than people who post the hits to begin with.

No idea how you would do that though.

Why not have an emoji/emoticon/smilie/whatever for "survey content"?
I'm thinking of a situation when someone is obviously posting survey content. But I don't want to say: "Hey dumbass don't post survey content!" That's, like, rude. Not everyone really grasps that you are not supposed to post survey content, and not everyone grasps why it is harmful for everyone, in the long run, if that is tolerated. Maybe a humorous emoji would do the trick. I have no idea how to design emojis. (Yeah, I could probably figure it out...) Maybe someone, like, sneezing, and saying "survey content". I'm thinking of something you could post without sounding like a total prick.
(I'm all in favor of almost discussing survey content... such a fine line!)

If someone really wanted to, I suppose they could use one of those smiley sign generators or something that make smilies that look like this: :masters:

Though, to be honest, I would kinda rather that people just report the post.

OK, now I see the Report button. What exactly does that do? I'm guessing that it notifies a moderator? But is that hidden?

Yes, it alerts us. It's hidden from everyone that isn't staff.

I appreciate the community self-moderating much of the time, but there are sometime occasions where someone will be called out for breaking a rule by others and they disagree, so people just start arguing about it. This can sometimes go on for a bit before any staff members even see it. When posts get reported, we get alerted and can deal with things quickly. And if anyone wants to argue or start getting nasty, I would prefer that they direct that at us on staff rather than other members.

So, what is the issue with not being able to use the go to post arrow? Is it an issue in XenForo add-ons software or XenForo software?

My understanding is it's related to the most recent version of Chrome.
